Notice of Forest Disruption

Bedgebury Forest Harvesting Operations

Timber harvesting works are scheduled to take place in these Woods.

Operations will include the thinning of Corsican Pine (CP) and thinning and clear fell of small areas of Sweet Chestnut (SC).

The age at which the CP is being thinned has been brought forward in an attempt to reduce the effects of the fungal Pathogen Red Band Needle Blight. Infection by the blight causes premature needle defoliation, which results in the loss of timber yield and, in severe cases, tree mortality. Since the late 1990s the incidence of the disease has increased dramatically in Britain, particularly in CP.

Much of the timber being felled will be sent to Slough Heat and Power LTD. This is one of the UK’s cleanest power stations using wood to provide a renewable energy source.

Other material will be used for sustainable woodland products such as fence posts and tree stakes.

To ensure the safety of the public, small sections of the forest where work is taking place will be closed. Please pay attention to warning signs and to instructions from Forest Workers.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the works some rides and tracks may become rutted and muddy during the harvesting, however this damage will be repaired at the end of the operation.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
