Brilliant Emerald Butterfly

High summer means our insects are at their busiest. With our many lakes and ponds, Bedgebury is renowned for its dragonflies and damselflies. Butterflies, grasshoppers, crickets and spiders are all visible around the Pinetum

13+ species of dragonfly have been seen this year at Bedgebury, including the Emperor Dragonfly our largest and most spectacular insect.

This is not a good year for butterflies with all the rain we have had, however, among the species to look out for are Painted Ladies, Peacocks, Commas, White Admirals, Red Admirals, Small Coppers, Skippers, Small Blues, Speckled Wood, Ringlet and Gatekeepers.
